Building Improvement Plan

Every year, Bayless High School administration presents a building improvement plan to the Board of Education. It outlines the school's priorities for the year and how it will help students grow. Below is a condensed version covering the key areas staff is focusing on to support every student’s success: Academic Excellence, Attendance/Belonging and College, Career and Life Readiness.
Academic Excellence
We Are
- Using i-Ready to identify each student’s strengths and needs in reading and math.
- Improving writing in all courses through the CERCA framework.
- Supporting English Learners and all students with SIOP strategies.
- Encouraging more use of the school library to grow academic and independent reading habits.
We Will
- Reduce the number of students reading below grade level and help more reach proficiency.
- Provide targeted math support so students meet grade-level expectations.
- Continue teacher training in literacy and differentiated instruction.
We Expect to See
- More students performing at or above grade level in reading and math.
- Stronger writing skills in every subject.
- Students using reading and writing to think critically and express ideas.
How Families Can Help
- Encourage your student to read at least 15 minutes a day.
- Ask them to share something they’ve written or a project they are proud of from school.
- Support attendance and participation in Level Up or Tutoring.
- Celebrate i-Ready Growth.
College, Career and Life Readiness
We Are
- Monitoring progress on EOC exams in English, Algebra, Biology and Government.
- Offering ACT Prep courses and tutoring.
- Regularly meeting with students for advising and post-graduation planning.
- Using attendance and MTSS meeting to support students in need of extra help.
We Will
- Increase the number of students scoring proficient or advanced on EOCs.
- Use academic and attendance data to provide targeted support to students.
- Improve communication with families about goals, attendance and next steps after high school.
- Strengthen teamwork among teachers, counselors and families to keep students on track.
We Expect to See
- More students proficient or advanced on EOC exams.
- Higher ACT scores and stronger college-and-career-readiness results.
- Better attendance and engagement.

- Check grades in Infinite Campus and reach out with concerns.
- Encourage your child to join ACT Prep, tutoring or Level Up
- Talk about future plans and how classes support those goals.
- Stress the importance of being present and on-time daily.
Attendance and Belonging
We Are
- Working towards a 95% or higher attendance rate with ongoing communication.
- Using Panorama Playbook strategies to support motivation, attendance and SEL skills.
- Providing counseling lessons and intervention meetings for student well-being.
- Sharing updates and celebrations through newsletters and family communication.
We Will
- Strengthen outreach to families of children with frequent absences or tardies.
- Continue advisory lessons focused on character, responsibility and resilience.
- Provide staff training on social-emotional learning and building connections.
- Celebrate positive attendance, citizenship and involvement throughout the year.
We Expect to See
- Attendance at or above 95% across all grade levels.
- Greater student belonging, motivation and engagement.
- Fewer absences and tardies, leading to improved academic performance.
